Our story
Comá (Comida-mamá) represents a Mother’s heart. A company founded by mother and daughter that creates innovative spreads, jams, and preserves Made in Mexico, it symbolizes families. Mothers are an important figure in this country. Mexican women have significant power to help families move forward, while at the same time, preserving our culture, heritage and customs, and that is how we think about moving forward while preserving the root.
Just as our flavors, the Mexican culture is Mestizo, which means the mix of indigenous races with Spanish people who colonized. The result of these mixes are the Mexicans.
It’s important to protect our heritage because that's deeply ingrained where the flavors of the Mexicans come from. We have such strong roots that are also related to food. There are many meals that we eat because they are rooted in the same culture. We have evolved in that we’ve both inherited generations of indigenous flavors and acquired our own unique flavors and essences for hundreds of years.
In the Mexican culture, preparing food means the union of the family, being with the family, sharing with the family. Mothers are the main propellers of family and its traditions, such as passing down recipes, sharing how to cook, and bringing people together through food and celebrations. In this culture, it’s important to have a base or a root. The family is the base, with the people who live in your home. The sharing, living together and doing. And it is done through food and the time that is dedicated to it, which is very strong in this culture.
At Comá, the mother-daughter relationship comes to fruition. Patricia (the mother) is based in Mexico City and is the Chief Innovator Officer of this partnership. She uses her creativity to bring new flavors by exploring markets, regions, and local source producers. Daniela (the daughter) is based in San Francisco, a seasoned entrepreneur and professional in the research and strategy industry.
